Evenflo has been creating car seats for decades. And recently, they have created a line of premium car seats that are also compatible to Evenflo strollers. It also has special features compared to previous models. We’ll be taking a look at Evenflo SensorSafe SecureMax Smart Infant Car Seat today. We tested this car seat for several days to see how reliable and safe it is for our baby.
How We Tested Evenflo SensorSafe SecureMax Smart
We installed EvenFlo in our sedan to see how well it performs when it comes to installing, safety, and comfort. One thing that was noticeable is the load leg. It’s an added safety feature for your baby, and it can reduce rotation and movement in an event of a collision.
We’ve tested several car seats and this features only comes from high-end car seats. But with SecureMax, you are on a reasonable price with top safety features. The load leg in this car seat can be removed if you will not be using it, but we don’t suggest this. Even with a load leg, the car seat is easy to carry around since it does not fling around.
How We Picked Evenflo SensorSafe SecureMax Smart
To see if Evenflo SensorSafe SecureMax Smart is the best car seat for your infant, we noted how well it does when it comes to installation. How well does the SensorSafe perform, is it really helpful and necessary? We also checked other things that might seem a small detail but is important anyway.
Installation
We installed the base of this car seat in our sedan in just few minutes! One thing to note is that the leg does not seem to stay firm with our carpeted floors. But after removing the carpet, it did stay firmly. Installing the seat without the base is a no-brainer as well, it was straightforward, easy and convenient.
SensorSafe
Like other Evenflo models, SecureMax is equipped with SensorSafe technology. The car seat has a special chest clip and a receiver that can be plugged in your car’s OBD port. There is also a downloadable application where it alerts you if there is a child left inside a car. This prevents accidents causing accidents for infants that are forgotten in a car on a hot summer day. It also notifies you if your child’s belt has been unbuckled, however the SensorSafe is too sensitive and can send you false notifications. After removing our baby in the child, the application has alerted us for hours that our baby is still in the car seat. It also alerted us a few times while driving that a belt has been unbuckled but upon checking, everything is in place.
Handle & Canopy
The handle for this car seat is too close to the canopy. I usually hook the car seat between my arm and this is not possible with the handle being too close to the canopy. You’ll need to hold it with just 1 hand which is a hassle if you’re holding another toddler on the other hand.
The canopy is also hard to open and close, it’s also loud no matter how slow you close and open it.
Fit
SecureMax has different harness position for your child’s hips. This ensures that they are securely fitter into the seat at any given age (height and weight). Keep in mind that unlike the previous models, SecureMax is not fitted directly for newborns and preemies. This means that right off the box, you need to adjust the harness in order to fit your newborn or preemies securely.
Read the manual carefully for guidelines on how to adjust the harness properly. Improper adjustment of harness straps can lead to misuse of the seat.
