Britax is one of many brands recognized for its safety when it comes to infant/child car seat. And their newest addition to their line is the Britax B-Safe Gen2 FlexFit. Since Britax is known for their safety features, this car seat does not differ. They have two layers of protection for side impact. A durable and sturdy steel frame and a shock-absorbing base in case of any accident. Your baby is definitely protected from all sides with this car seat. The Gen2 FlexFit has now more space compared to older models of Britax car seats. It includes a 6 headrest position and a removable pillow for your infant. Furthermore, the Gen2 is compatible with any Britax stroller. You can simply click your car seat on the stroller without waking and removing your infant from the seat. This is thanks to their Click and Go technology.
How We Picked and Tested Britax B-Safe Gen2 Flexfit
Ergonomic handle. Reinforced with steel frame, this car seat is also non-slip, made specifically to be carried between the crook of your arms or by hand.
Protective canopy. Gen2 has a waterproof canopy and is also made of UPF 50+ fabric. This is useful, specially if you plan to use it with the Britax stroller.
Easy installation. Gen2 uses LATCH system just like the other models of Britax. You can easily install the seat with a click and easily remove them as well. Car seat belt can also be used without the base. For further instructions on how to install Gen2 on your vehicle, you can contact their customer support or check the manual.
Washable fabric. One of the best feature of this car seat (at least for me as a mom) is that the fabric is removable and machine washable. This makes it easier for cleaning and convenient for any mess by your baby. It’s also equipped with mesh fabric that will keep your baby cool.
Wide weight range. Some good car seats have a small window for maximum height and weight, with Gen2, you can use this on your newborn to at least 18 months or until they reach the maximum height and weight (32 inches and 35 lbs), which ever comes first.
What We Don’t Like About Britax B-Safe Gen2 Flexfit
Britax B-safe Gen2 FlexFit is a nice car seat that is easy to install and has comfortable padding and cover, but there are small things that can be considered as drawbacks, and you might want to consider before purchasing this.
Ease of use. We established that FlexFit has straightforward and easy installation but one thing that exhausted me was removing the car seat from our car. It took me several minutes with maximum effort to take the car seat out of the car.
Heavy. Since this car seat is reinforced with steel for frame and base, it’s not a surprise to us that this seat is quite heavy, weighing 20 lbs. We are not definitely using this if we will go on a trip or will be using the public transportation.
Bulky. This seat is nice and well-made, but it’s too bulky for our sedan. Note that our car is a pretty standard-size sedan, and we needed to push the front seats forward to comfortably fit this car seat at the back. If you have a compact car, this car seat will probably not fit.
Compatibility. Note that Britax car seats are only compatible with Britax strollers.
Pricey. Since Britax went all out for safety and other features for this model, the cost of this eat is also on the higher end.
What Other Infant Car Seat Should You Consider?
If you want a car seat that is cheaper but has all the features of FlexFit plus more, we recommend Chicco KeyFit 30 and Chicco KeyFit 35. In our experience, these alternative car seats are way easier to install, has a bubble leveling indicator at the base, is relatively lighter and more compact.
